Helping With Liturgy

Serving as a minister

We depend on the parishioners to provide the different ministries for the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy (the Mass). For a dignified celebration it is very helpful to have parishioners who are dedicated and who have been trained in the specific ministries. Sloppy liturgy reflects a lack of focus on the fact that we are encountering the Lord in a powerful and tangible way. Just as someone would take extra care to understand their role if they were involved in a project in the workplace, even more so we ought to be prepared to enter completely into the Mass by being properly disposed and trained.

Every parishioner ought to take stock of their gifts and talents and consider whether they can contribute to the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. Some roles require more training than others, and sometimes there are changes in how a ministry is carried out.

If you are interested in a particular ministry, please talk to Fr. Eli by calling 218-546-6559 or email fr.elias.gieske@duluthcatholic.org.

Thank you to all who help the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy.

What is Liturgical Ministry?

Liturgical ministry has to do with supporting the celebration of Mass. Strictly speaking it includes:

  • Lectors
  • Eucharistic ministers
  • Altar servers
  • Choir or musical accompaniment.

There are other ministries that are also important to the functioning of Mass. These are ministries like ushers, greeters, sacristans and gift bearers.
